Artist Statement

Susan Allen is an art collector focusing on tribal art as well as paintings and sculpture. She trained for many years under the tutelage of internationally acclaimed Boston artist George Dergalis, and studied at Mass College of Art and the SMFA/Boston. Susan Allen has been involved in the world of art since the early 60’s. Initially creating geometric forms and three-dimensional canvases inspired by the early work of Frank Stella.

In March 2020, as the world was closing down, and people were stocking up on hand sanitizer and paper products, Susan was amassing canvases so that she could continue with the creative process as part of the new daily ritual of being home. The works presented on this site have all been created during the pandemic.

Susan dreams in color and spends an inordinate amount of time mixing paints to create pairings that bring each canvas to life. The paintings explore the interplay and compatibility of colors by mixing acrylic flat and metallic paints on a black canvas. The result is a sensual, dynamic, visual, haptic experience for the viewer.
